Building Business Case
DEFINITION: What is a business case? A business case presents information to a person or group of people which persuades them to decide one way or another. • Business cases should be based on adding value to the corporation – what is the right thing for the business • Financial evaluation is one component of the Business Case; however, it is only one of many factors to consider • A Business Case should consider: o Business Need: Why is the project being proposed to be executed? o Project Scope: What is the definition of the project scope that will be delivered to meet the business need o Business Strategy: How does what is being planned align with the business strategy of the company

1.1 E XECUTIVE S UMMARY The Executive Summary must provide a concise, but complete explanation of the justification for the project in as brief a manner as possible, while including all the information necessary to reach an informed decision.
