A key element of Project Governance is communication, most project problems result from lack of communication, and there is a strong relationship between the project progress and the project manager’s ability to manage communication. Communicating effectively means that project information is provided and available in the appropriate format, at the right time and to the right audience. See Section 4.11 Communications Plan. The development of a project’s communication plan sets expectations with stakeholders for how communications will be managed and how it is expected involved parties will interact with each other. Indeed project managers may need support and education on what is expected from them in relation on the project and their role in ensuring that governance expectations are complied with. Expectations should be established early, at project start and properly documented, for how project team members communicate, including various communication methods such as email, telephone, meetings, and technology-related platforms. See Chapter 3. Identify and Analyze Stakeholders. A properly prepared communications plan promotes consistency, productivity, and successful outcomes. The communications plan should be prepared only after there is sufficient understanding of the project requirements and stakeholder expectations. Frequency of communication of different information to different stakeholders and project team including regular status update should be defined in a communications plan. The types of information to communicate/update typically include project status,
